In my experience most helpdesk software packages have a terrible user interface. Even though some of them are very functional the User Interaction Design is usually lacking big time.
What I was looking for was web based software with a simple, clean and friendly user interface. During my search I found there are many options for bug tracking and project management. Although these could be used for ticketing they usually lack in functionality. Hence an improvement in UI, and a set back in functionality, or usually workflow.
Now the folks from Entp – who also made Lighthouse – have created Tender Support. It is geared directly to end user support, and provides Helpdesk, Knowledge Base and Forums.

Users can file support requests by e-mail or use the self service portal to file requests, browse through articles or start a discussion. Two features I particularly love? The great dashboard (see above) that provides instant insight in the work at hand and performance and the ability to show which support staff is available, thus giving support a friendly face.

They offer three plans. No sign-up fee. No termination-fee. No long-term contracts. Upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. All plans come with a 30-day no-obligation unlimited free trial and the price for all plans is more than fair and affordable. If you’re in the market for replacement of your helpdesk software, I’d urge you to take a look and Tender Support
Did you have a look at the help desk software by Web Help Desk?
We use the commercial version but my colleague uses their Free Help Desk Edition and couldn’t live without it.
Hope this helps.
I had a look at that already but did not like the UI at all, which is exactly the issue I have with most solutions and why I like Tender Support so much. But thanks for the tip anyway.
